How to Convert GroupWise Archive to Outlook?

Follow Easy Steps to Migrate GroupWise Archive to Outlook PST

Accessing Archive emails and other details from GroupWise account to MS Outlook is quite easy process. Some manual steps for downloading GroupWise details within MS Outlook are given here:

  • Under Microsoft AD Network » Open GroupWise
  • Inbox » New Folder (GW Archives)

  • At top most menu -> follow File tab -> get Open tab -> Click on Import tab

  • Under Import And Export Wizard -> go with "Import from another program or file" -> click on Next

  • Within "Select file type to import from" -> Go with Outlook Data File (.pst) -> click on Next tab.

  • Need to select a drive where data restore will take place, say here the drive is named as V -> make selection of username for which you want to create PST -> user1.pst (get the username according to your ease)-> if you are going to store data within more than one PST file then, add PSTs with name user.pst-1 & user.pst-2-> Opt "Do not import duplicates" -> click on next tab

  • Within current folder -> Check the box 'Include Sub folders' -> go Import items into the same folder -> click to Finish tab

The process will be finished within approx 20 minutes for individual PST file.


Before downloading GroupWise information into MS Outlook, it is required to create GroupWise Archive directory as well as emails of GroupWise should be archive. The process is given below within different sections.

Set Up Archive Directory GroupWise


Steps for creating Archive Directory within GroupWise are:

  • GroupWise client -> login

  • Move on with Tools tab -> click to "Options"

  • Type "C:\...\GWArchive" or the name you want to provide or set

  • You will get a message "do you want to create the directory", you need to say Yes
  • Say No for "you want to move your current archive to the new directory"

If you have not executed the process earlier then, try it for one mail with underneath given steps:

  • Need to login into GroupWise email client
  • Be sure that you do have an Archive Directory
  • Move to Mailbox
  • Make selection of desired or single email file from a single mailbox or from multiple folders
  • Opt the option "Move to Archive"
  • Archiving of single email is quite speedy, on the other hand for archiving bunch of GroupWise emails it will take few minutes
  • To be sure the email or emails are archived or not move to File menu -> Open Archive -> view the mails within the folder
  • If you want to move on to previous situation then, go back to Active Mailbox -> File -> Again follow Open Archive

Archive Sent Items From GroupWise

  • Open GroupWise (Client)-> under the menu bar-> opt File option.
  • Open Archive -> it helps to open Archive Directory
  • File menu -> View option
  • Folder ->"Find Results Folder"
  • Go with "Predefined find results folders" -> "All Sent Items"from the window
  • Next button and then click on Finish that creates archived Sent Item folder
