Almost all of us are very well aware of the common methods of quick moving and copying files to and fro. Drag and drop is the most convenient of all and adopted by most. Yet one of the facts that most of us are still unaware of is that the transfer speed of each file depends on the processing capability of both the devices involved. The processing rate of a device ‘FROM’ which the data is being moved, and the device ‘TO’ which the data is being moved, play a major role in speeding up/slowing down the transfer rate respectively.

Scenarios like these involve moving of large data from a PC to; Flash drive, external hard drive, network or any other external storage media in short period. Though transfer of fair amount of data is easily handled by Windows alone but when it comes to mass data transfer or file copying process, time consumption is pretty obvious.

For this, the web offers a number of third party applications that are programmed to serve users with the speediest data transfer rate. Teracopy large data copy tool is amongst such application which also happens to be free of cost and capably transfers bulk of data instantly.

Some of the key features offered by the software:

  1. Faster Copying of File: The tool uses asynchronous method for copying large number and size of files which helps in faster replication/transfer of data between devices.
  2. Pause/Resume Option: While copying large data if you want to stop the copy process in between for some time then you can do so & continue from the same point by resuming it.
  3. Data Comparison: You can check the data integrity by matching the CRC value of Source & Target file.
  4. All Win OS Compatibility: The Tools is enough capable to faster file transfer from windows 7/8/10

Scenarios: Not just a few but many have faced trouble during the transfer of large sized files or file in multiple numbers. Here we have recreated a few of such genuine scenarios along with troubleshooting steps for the same. Read on to know more about it and the different level of issues faced by users caught up in in spite of using the software.

Problem 1: Move Large Files to a USB/Pen Drive/Memory Card

I have purchased a new SanDisk pen drive of 8GB.The data which I need to transfer in it is about 4 GB only. Still when I try copying it through Teracopy I get the error: File Too Large “The file 123.xyz is too large to transfer”.

Although, it is a new pen drive & doesn’t have any data in it, but I still cannot transfer data into it. There is nothing wrong with the pen drive at all as per my best knowledge.

Later, I discovered that this error was occurring because the pen drive is carrying a FAT32 File system which is not capable of handling file size larger than 4GB. And usually pen drives come formatted with FAT32 file system. Therefore, I discovered that the problem was with my pen drive and not the application.

Troubleshooting Steps

Follow given steps to change the File System of a pen drive from Fat32 to NTFS:

  1. Insert the pen drive into your PC
  2. Either copy the data out of your pen drive on the PC or remove it
  3. Open File Explore on your PC
  4. On the left panel under My Computer/This PC your PD will be listed amongst all the other partitions. Right click on it & select Format option
  5. From the drop down menu change the File System from Fat 32 to ExFat or NTFS
  6. Then retry copying your data using Teracopy to get successful results.

Problem 2: How to Move Large Files to External Hard Drive?

I own an external hard drive of Western Digital with 80GB storage. I want to move a movie that is around 7.2 GB, so that I could watch it on my TV receiver. When I tried to move this large file into my external drive, an error occurs which says “The file is too large for the destination file system.”

Is it possible to quickly move a movie this large without having to split it?

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. Open Command Prompt window by typing cmd on the Start menu
  2. Then type the following command exactly as shown: C:\Users\Username>convert F: /fs:ntfs /nosecurity.
Note: Replace the Username with your system user name & replace F with your External Hard drive letter/name.
  3. Then use the software to copy the large file.

TIP: Not only can this software speed up the data transfer process, but it can also show better information, queue copies, pause, skip, and deal with problematic files far better than Windows.

I am leaving my university. I have around 4 years of data which is almost terabytes in size. I can’t wait to transfer this much of data, as I have to join my office from the next day itself. Moving large files from one computer to usb seems like a nightmare as it takes so much time. But with this tool I was able to shorten the time duration of copying my files to my external hard drive.      Charlene Slawinski

With this tool I was able to verify if the destination result was same in respect to the comparison of CRC value. Some just write the actual values to the destination and not the data value of the source. But this tool did it!      Michael Kenley

With Teracopy or Windows copy I have control over the entire procedure with the help of the error messages provided to me at the end. For instance, my network cable got unplugged and the tool automatically paused but when I resumed the process it continued without any inconvenience caused. A report of the same was provided to me that helped me determine the glitch encountered.      Hallie Appel

I am very much glad to use this large data copy application as it did for me what Windows alone was unable to do. I had around 300+ external hard drives of clients that needed regular data updates. Being the only responsible person, it was impossible for me to get done with the process for each drive quickly. With huge mp3 format file the process had to slow down for obvious reason. Though I thought of copying data on 2 different drives at a time using my Windows 8 machine, but got very disappointed with the rate of transfer which was around 40MB per second. Just by getting this application, I did all this within a few moments itself with no inconvenience faced at all.      David Szakacs
