How to Fix Outlook Gmail Error “Please Log in Via Your Web Browser”

There are many users who have both Outlook and Gmail Account. Sometimes, users want to configure their Microsoft Outlook account on Windows platform for Gmail account for easily access the Gmail data in Outlook. But, there are many cases when people encounter an error message “ your imap server wants to alert you to the following please log in via your web browser” while access another email account like Gmail with Outlook. When one encounters this error, a pop-up will appear which tells users to log in through the web browser. If they click on OK button, then it will close the dialog box & instantly opens the Outlook login box with the credentials that are already filled in. But, users are not able to connect Outlook to Gmail even clicking on the Connect button. So, in this blog, we will provide you a solution to resolve the “please log in via your web browser” error message.

User’s Query

I am using Outlook email application for official purpose and Gmail for personal use. I have configured my Gmail account to Outlook for accessing Gmail data in Outlook account. But, now I can’t seem to set up my Gmail IMAP account in Outlook 2016. When I tried to open Outlook then it displayed a Gmail error that “your imap server wants to alert you to the following please log in via your web browser”.

 

This is the complete error message:

After getting this error message, I just click on OK button to close the dialog box. Then, I opened the Outlook login box where email credentials are already filled. I clicked on Connect button but didn’t connect my Outlook application to Gmail, and I was unable to download emails from Gmail.

Fix Outlook Gmail Error “Please Log in Via Your Web Browser”

 

To resolve the issue, there are few things you must do:

1. Check your password.

2. Try to update your email client to the latest version.

3. Check whether you are using the correct password for your email account or not.

4. If you have changed your Gmail password recently, you might need to re-enter your Gmail account setup information.

5. If you are using 2-Step Verification process, then try signing in with an App Password. You can apply two–step authentication in your Gmail account by following these steps:

  • First, go to your Google Account Settings Page & choose the “Signing in to Google” option under the “Sign-in & security” section.

 

  • Then, click on the App passwords option under the “Password & sign-in method”.

 

  • Now, a dialog box appears in front of you, here you can generate the password. Then, choose Other (Custom name) under the “Select App” drop-down.

 

  • At the dialog enter the application name and then click on the Generate option.

 

  • Finally, you will get the password after clicking on Generate option.

 

6. Now, Google is allowing users to turn their basic authentication back. If you do not use 2-Step verification in Gmail, then you may need to allow less secure apps to access your account. To do such thing, go to your Gmail account settings & choose Allow less secure apps option.
