Migrate Hotmail to Exchange in Simple Way

Hotmail popularly known as outlook.com is the free online web mail service offered by Microsoft. Web Mail Service is the easiest and most used medium to exchange data with business and social contacts. With the involvement of business contacts indicate that the data exchange may have some crucial information. So safeguarding the security of such data is an issue of concern and if we analyze the facts and history we will found that security is the only loophole in hotmail accounts. The Hotmail accounts can easily get hacked from intruders. So because of this Hotmail users are on the heap of migrating from Hotmail to other web mail services and one of the most preferred one is Exchange Online. But the most common dilemma faced by the user when they want to migrate hotmail to exchange is that how to migrate their mails from Hotmail to Exchange. So taking this topic into consideration we thought to provide a sure short and easy method to make this migration successful.

The process can be done in two ways:-

  1. Manual Method
  2. Using PowerShell

Both the methods are appropriate according to the user preference.

Manual method for Migrating Hotmail to Outlook

Step1:- Configure Your Account (Hotmail) to Outlook.
Add your account by following steps

  • Fill the details section in Auto Account Setup option.

  • By doing so all your Hotmail Account mails are available in outlook

Step2:- Copy all your Hotmail Account mail.

For copying the mail follow the below listed steps

  • Go to File option then Import and Export option then Export to a File option

  • Go to “outlook data file”.

  • Select the account for mail export.

  • Go for the destination where you want to save your file by using browse option.

Step 4:- In the last step all you have to do is to add your PST files and copy them to your exchange account.

Using PowerShell Migration

Step 1:- The very first thing which you want to do is to enable the Directory Synchronization in your Microsoft Online.

Step2:- Download the Microsoft Online Services Migration Tool and Install it.

Step3:- Navigate to start>> All Programs>> Online Microsoft Service >>Sign in after the installation has been completed.

Step4:- Fill the details accordingly

  1. Enter your hotmail email address inSourceidentity
  2. Enter Hotmail email address inSourceLoginID
  3. Enter the Hotmail account password in Sourcepassword
  4. Microsoft Online Services email address inTargetidentity

Note:This process will only move your inbox mails, your contacts and calendars are not migrated.

Conclusion:

The above elaborated methods (Manual and PowerShell) are quiet time consuming and need technical knowledge. In the PowerShell method lots of technical and administrative knowledge is required. In the case of Manual step the configuring outlook with exchange is quiet complicated and import and export of mail needs time. So to save time user can go for SysTools Hotmail Backup utility which will directly backup your Hotmail account mails, contacts and calendar data into desire file  format which can directly imported into exchange online.
