Keeping important Yahoo emails only in your mailbox is risky, as cyber attackers can access your data or compromise your account. There is a high chance of data loss and leaks.

To bypass this, it is recommended to export Yahoo emails to HTML to save them as individual web pages locally.

HTML files can be opened in web browsers such as Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and other browsers, so you can easily access them without needing any external email service or tool.

In this guide, I will explain different ways to export Yahoo emails to HTML and save them to a computer, external drive, or other local storage with a proper set of instructions.

Why Export Yahoo Mail to HTML?

Recently, I wanted to back up my Yahoo emails to my computer, and I chose the HTML format because:

  • HTML files can be opened easily in any browser, i.e. Chrome, Firefox, etc.
  • No need for the internet to access Yahoo emails.
  • HTML is the file format that retains the entire structure of any data category, i.e. formatting, images, links, etc.
  • HTML file format can be dragged and dropped, or copied or pasted to another computer or storage device.

Overall, keeping backups in HTML file format is best, as it doesn’t need any email service to access; like PST needs Outlook to open, you can’t open this file format without Outlook.

Can You Directly Export Yahoo Mail to HTML?

When I needed to back up Yahoo emails to an HTML file format, I researched and found some ways. Among them, I found these tricks are the best and most practical, which I’ll share further. But before let me clear one thing: Yahoo does not provide a direct option to export an entire mailbox as HTML files.

You can open an individual Yahoo email in a browser and save the webpage as an HTML file, but this approach becomes difficult when you have hundreds or thousands of emails.

For bulk export, dedicated software is the only solution, which can process unlimited emails simultaneously.

Both solutions are explained next:

Method 1. Export Yahoo Email to HTML Manually

Yahoo Mail allows you to save emails in HTML one by one, not in bulk. Here’re the steps for the same:

  1. Sign in to your Yahoo Mail account and open the mailbox to save emails from there.
  2. Open the Yahoo email and use your browser’s Save Page As option to save the opened email webpage.
  3. Now, choose the location where to save the email on your computer.
  4. Choose the Webpage, HTML Only option if it is available in your browser.
  5. Enter a suitable name for the HTML file and click Save.
  6. Repeat the same process for other Yahoo emails to save as HTML files.

I know this is time-consuming for a large dataset, but this is best for 10-12 email exports as HTML.

Method 2. Export Yahoo Mail to HTML via a Professional Tool

If you have a large Yahoo mailbox, you can use the SysTools Yahoo Mail Backup Tool to download Yahoo emails locally in HTML file format directly. With this, you don’t need to back up emails one by one; instead, it can save your entire mailbox in HTML format simultaneously.

Things to Consider Before Exporting Yahoo Mail

Even though we have solutions and steps, there is a risk of data loss, so it is better to follow a proper checklist:

  • Make sure you have enough local storage
  • Select only the required folders if you do not need the complete mailbox
  • Use the date filter option of the SysTools tool when only specific emails are required
  • Keep the exported data in a secure location
  • Keep another copy of important email data when necessary

Author’s Verdict

If you only need to save a few Yahoo emails, the browser’s Save Page As option can be used to create local HTML copies. However, manually saving every message becomes difficult when handling a large Yahoo mailbox.

For bulk Yahoo Mail backup, a dedicated tool such as SysTools utility can help download mailbox data to your computer in one go.
