With the Samsung Email app, users can access Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo, or any other IMAP-supported client. When we talk about Samsung Email app backup, we’re basically talking about backing up emails from these email services, like Yahoo email backup.

The Samsung Email app is not an email client; it can be used only to manage email accounts such as Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo, Microsoft 365, Exchange, and other IMAP accounts on Galaxy smartphones.

However, having an account configured in the Samsung Email app does not mean that every email has been saved as a separate local backup. If you are changing phones or switching to another email app, then it is necessary to have a Samsung Email app backup.

Samsung provides built-in backup and transfer options such as Samsung Cloud and Smart Switch. Samsung’s current documentation also notes that supported backup items depend on device, OS version, and country.

Why Backup Samsung Email App Emails?

Recently, I found that backing up Samsung Email app data can be useful in several situations, like when:

  • Moving emails to a new Samsung Galaxy phone
  • Resetting or replacing your Samsung phone
  • An email account is removed from the device
  • Need a copy for offline access, without needing any email synchronization
  • Important business emails need a backup copy to safeguard data from accidental deletion and cyber attacks

One important point is that when Samsung Email is configured with an email client, whatever you do in the email client will be reflected in Samsung Email also. This means that if you accidentally delete your emails from your email client like Gmail, then you won’t find any copy of the same in your Samsung Email.

Therefore, having a backup is important to have access to all the emails, even if they are deleted from the mail server.

How to Perform Samsung Email App Backup?

When I need to have a Samsung Email backup, fortunately, I found some ways to do so. I’ll share all of them one by one, with their simplest set of instructions:

#Method 1. Backup Samsung Email App Data Using Samsung Cloud

Samsung Cloud provides a built-in way to back up supported Galaxy device data. Items such as contacts, messages, calendars, settings, apps and Samsung app settings are among the data that will be included.

However, the exact backup items depend on the device. For this, the steps are as follows:

  • Open Settings on your Samsung Galaxy phone
  • Tap Accounts and backup
  • Open Samsung Cloud
  • Tap Back up data
  • Check the available categories
  • Select the data to back up
  • Tap Back up now
  • Wait for the backup process to finish
  • Tap Done

Samsung also provides automatic backup options on supported devices. For automatic backup, you must have to be connected to Wi-Fi.

#Method 2. Using Smart Switch

Samsung Smart Switch is another built-in option for transferring and backing up Galaxy device data. It can back up Galaxy device data to a PC or external storage.

To create a Smart Switch backup:

  • Install or open Samsung Smart Switch
  • Connect your Samsung Galaxy phone to a computer using a USB cable
  • Open Smart Switch on the computer
  • Select Backup
  • Select the available data categories
  • Start the backup

Smart Switch can be useful when your main objective is moving supported phone data to another Galaxy device, but it is not a complete email archiving solution.

#Method 3. Backup Samsung Email App Data to SD Card or USB Storage

Samsung provides options for backing up Galaxy data to SD cards and USB storage through Smart Switch.

The process is:

  • Connect the SD card or USB storage to the Samsung phone
  • Open Smart Switch
  • Select the external storage option
  • Choose Back up
  • Select the available data
  • Tap Next
  • Start the backup
  • Tap Done

However, this also has the same limitation: not every type of email account or email data is necessarily included in a Smart Switch backup.

#Method 4. Backup Emails From the Original Mail Account

If the Samsung Email app is connected to an external email service, another approach is to back up the messages directly from the original mail account.

For example, the Samsung Email app can be connected to:

  • Gmail
  • Outlook
  • Microsoft 365
  • Yahoo Mail
  • AOL Mail
  • Exchange Server
  • Other IMAP mail servers

For this purpose, a tool such as SysTools Email Backup Tool can be used when the requirement is to download emails from supported mail accounts (Gmail, Yahoo, Outlook, Exchange Server, Office 365, Google Workspace, etc.) and save them in commonly used formats, i.e. PST, MBOX, MSG, EML, and PDF.

I used this solution for free and found that it provides options such as:

  • Back up multiple email accounts simultaneously
  • Save emails directly to a USB flash drive, hard drive, external hard drive, or PC.
  • Maintain folder structure
  • Apply date filters
  • Perform incremental or delta backups to download only newly received email data after the initial backup
  • Save emails in different file formats:
    • Windows: PST, MBOX, EML, MSG, and PDF
    • macOS: PST, MBOX, EML, EMLX, MSG, PDF, HTML, TXT, CSV, and MHT
  • 24/7 technical support

Note: This utility can back up emails from any IMAP-supported email client. It does not directly back up emails from the Samsung Email app because Samsung Email is an email access application, not an independent email client or email service.

When installed for free, follow the steps below for Samsung Email app backup:

Step 1. Open the software and select the desired output file format.

Step 2. Afterwards, you can apply a date filter if you want to back up only selected data.

Step 3. Now select your IMAP Server, such as Gmail, AOL, Yahoo, Zoho, or any other IMAP-supported email client.

Select IMAP Server

Step 4. Choose the local location where to save the Samsung Email app data by clicking on the Backup folder path option.

Step 5. Press the Start backup button.

Now, wait until the process ends, and when it is done, go to the target location to verify the backup. You can audit the data by generating a detailed or summary report.

How to Backup Samsung Email App Before Changing Phones?

If you are replacing your Samsung phone, follow this process:

  • Check which email accounts are configured in Samsung Email
  • Use Samsung Cloud for supported device data
  • Use Smart Switch to back up supported phone data
  • Set up the email accounts on the new phone
  • Check that all emails are properly synchronized

It is recommended to keep the old phone untouched until the required data has been verified.

Author’s Verdict

Samsung Cloud and Smart Switch provide built-in options for Samsung Email app backup. For a complete local archive of important emails, it is better to back up the original email account rather than only a phone backup. For this, we discussed that the SysTools utility is one of the best solutions for Samsung Email app backup.
