I will teach you exactly how to migrate emails from one Gmail account to another. Although this is a highly requested feature, you won’t find a button to migrate anywhere on the main screen of your Gmail account.

Instead, it is hidden behind three layers of the settings screen, and even when you find and use it, the outcome is rarely what you require.

I have faced the same issue myself. I tried every method that is supposed to transfer your emails between two Gmail accounts, and it helped me understand the scope and limitations of each technique.

Now that I know this, I plan to share my experience so you don’t have to replicate the same trial and error that I had to go through. Read the guide, migrate once, and migrate right.

How to Migrate Emails from One Gmail Account to Another Manually?

Before going further with this method, you must have your old Gmail account configured to allow access using POP. To do this configuration of POP access, follow the steps below-

  • From your current Gmail account, tap on the Settings gear icon in the accounts toolbar. From here, tap on the See All Settings.
  • Now, from the new window screen, choose Forwarding and the POP/IMAP section.
  • Afterward, in the POP Download section, check the Enable POP for all mail options.
  • After choosing POP, when messages are accessed with the POP menu, you will get multiple different options, select any, and tap Save Changes.

Transfer All Emails from One Gmail to Another Manually

Now, for the destination account, just log in with your new Gmail account first.

  • After login, go to Settings >> See All Settings > Accounts and Import.
  • Then, from this section, just select Add a mail account option.
  • It will prompt a new dialog box. Here, enter your old Gmail address you’re transferring your emails from, and tap Next. Then, here, select Import emails from my other account (POP3) to migrate emails from one Gmail account to another.
  • From the next wizard, just enter your user name, password, and add pop.gmail.com under POP Server and select Port number as 995. Also, check the “Always use a secure connection (SSL) when retrieving mail” option below. Or you can customize the process as per the requirement, then click Add account.
⚠️ Important Warning: This method flattens your folder structure. If you have emails organized in labels like “Invoices > 2024,” they will all arrive in your new Inbox mixed together.

Confirm that Both Gmail Accounts are Connected

Now, in this last step, you must make sure that the old Gmail account recognizes the new Gmail account. To do this, follow the steps-

  • On the next screen, select the “Yes, I want to be able to send mail as [email protected]”, tap the Next button.
  • After this, enter your name > check Treat as an alias > Next Step > and Send Verification option.
  • Now, simply close the window and move further.
  • In this step, you need to sign out of your new account to move further.
  • After successfully signing out, here, log in to your Gmail account from which you are you’re transferring emails.

Note: When you transfer Gmail emails from one account to another, it’s important to do the confirmation step.

  • Now, from the inbox, just open the email from Gmail Team with the subject Gmail Confirmation – Send Mail as [email protected].
  • Simply copy the confirmation code, then sign out of this old account.
  • Now, log in to your new Gmail account again, where you want to access your old emails. Again, move to the Accounts and Import section and select the Verify option for the old Gmail account’s address under the Send mail as section.
  • It will ask for the verification code, paste the code, and hit the Verify button to connect both accounts together.

By following these manual steps, you can transfer your emails, but it will not fetch all the messages at once.
