About Email Files : "Nowadays for computer users, Electronic mail (E-mail) has been a widely used means for exchanging information. To access this means we require an application, which provides us with email services and such applications are termed as Email client application. These email applications archive emails on user’s operating system within a file system. Therefore, there are several email files like eml, emlx, msg, mbox, etc., which store entire messages of different email client applications. In this content, we are going to learn about EMLX and EML files in details, need to convert these email files and approach for doing the same."

EML

It is an email file that stores email messages in MIME RFC 822 standard format. The file is being supported by several email applications like Lotus Notes, Mozilla Thunderbird, Windows Mail, and much more. The file extension of this file is .eml. EMLX

An another email file that stores messages of only Apple email programs. Moreover, the functioning of EMLX file is same as EML email file. The file extension of EMLX file is .emlx. The only difference between both these mail files is that EML files are supported on all email client applications (Windows-based or Linux-based) whereas EMLX files are supported only on email applications of Apple machine. However, there does not exist any file signature for this file.

Need to Convert EMLX to EML

EMLX files are only supported by Apple email application, whereas EML files are supported by several email applications whether they are Windows-based or Linux-based applications.
One reason may be that user wants to migrate from one platform to another and hence, converting EMLX files of Apple mail into EML.

Approach to Convert EMLX to EML

To perform the conversion, go through the following steps:

STEP 1

From Mail of Mac machine, drag mailbox from it and drop it on desktop

Now from your desktop, click on Go >> Application

STEP 3

From application window, click on Automator option.

STEP 4

From left hand side menu, search for Get Specified Finder Items and double-click on it.

Again from same side, search for Rename Finder Items and double-click on it.

Now drag the EMLX file from desktop to Get Specified Finder Items field of Automator window

STEP 7

In Rename Finder Items field, click on drop down button and select Replace Text

STEP 8

In the same field, mention .emlx in Find field and .eml in Replace field for performing EMLX to EML file conversion

STEP 9

Go to Copy Finder Items field and select a destination folder (for example: Inbox for Entourage)

STEP 10

At the end click on Run button, from the top-right corner of the screen

Take the converted EML file from MAC desktop to use it on your machine

Both these files have the same functioning but the only difference is based upon the machine’s Operation System.
