Step 2: Import CSV File to Excel Workbook

 

Next, if you want to import CSV file (Comma Separated Value) to MS Excel, you can perform as this:

  • Enable Worksheet you need to import a .csv file, click on Data and then, From Text

 


 

  • Under the Import Text File dialog box, open the folder in which your .csv file available, and choose Text Files from the drop-down list beyond the File name text, and select your CSV file

 

 

  • Now, choose Import option and the Text Import Wizard is popped on the screen. Check the particular option you need in Choose file type best describe your data field. Now, you can check the Delimited because the entire data is delimited by commas

 

 

  • Press Next button to go to the next step, and check the delimiters you want to separate that data by in Delimiters section

 

 

  • Select Next to proceed to the step 3 of the Text Import Wizard, and choose a specific column from the Data preview, and then select the format you need to apply in this column under the section Column data format.

 


 

  • Click Finish button. Then, the Import Data dialog box popped out for you to select the desired location for importing the data

 

 

  • Press OK button. Now, the CSV file has been imported into MS Excel spreadsheet

 

 

 

Note: When an original CSV file has been changed, you can select Data and, then Refresh All option. For this, you can choose this .csv file format again to refresh the CSV data in MS Excel.

Limitations of Manual Approach

The above-stated method is very beneficial to transfer Outlook Express contacts to Excel but, it has some drawbacks. The main drawback is that it is a time-consuming procedure and internet connection is needed during migration. Once the export process was interrupted it cannot be resumed.
