Migrating email data can sometimes be long and tedious, and sometimes very easy to execute, depending on the mailbox size. But whatever the case may be, every user wants a safe and secure migration without affecting the existing data. So, in this article, we will share the best method to migrate a Yandex account to an Office 365 account safely. To do this, we are going to share the best possible way.

Choosing a secure platform is a basic need for each one of us, but sometimes we run away due to storage issues. So, in both these cases, Microsoft Office 365 is the best option as compared to the others.

Along with these, other reasons make the Office 365 platform the best, like Yandex Mail provides 10GB storage space, which is not enough for some organizations. In fact, Microsoft 365 includes a range of applications to meet organizational needs. This comes with updates from time to time to work with more flexibility.

Step-by-Step Method to Forward messages from Yandex to M365

  • Step 1. Sign in to Yandex
  • Step 2. Select an email (don’t select more than one; if you do, the emails will not forward as messages but as attachments instead)
  • Step 3. Press the Forward arrow in the top ribbon.
  • Step 4. In the email draft, add your O365 address in the To field and press Enter.

This method is fine for all existing messages, but for all upcoming messages, I have something better.

Set Auto-Forward Rule

  • Step 1. Log in to your Yandex Mail account
  • Step 2. Click on the Gear/cog icon in the bottom left corner, just above your profile pic
  • Step 3. From the pop-up box, click All settings
  • Step 4. Inside the settings menu, choose Rules for processing emails
  • Step 5. Under the Incoming mail filters, click Create filter
  • Step 6. Set up an If condition
  • Step 7. Under Take the following action, mark the checkbox next to “Forward to” and add your Office 365 account address.

Optional Step. If you want to keep a copy of messages in the Yandex account, be sure to mark the “Save a copy” checkbox.

  • Step 8. Scroll to the bottom and press Create filter.
  • Step 9. A warning box appears. Click on Continue.

Note: As this is a sensitive setting, you will be prompted to log in again. Complete the process, and the filter will be ready.

Also, keep in mind that, as Yandex is a Russian mailing service, it’s highly likely that your email would be considered as spam by Microsoft’s safety feature. To prevent this, I suggest you whitelist the email in Outlook 365.

Forwarding is just one way of shifting emails manually. There are other options too, so let’s check them out.

Prepare a Desktop Email Client for Yandex to O365 Transfer

You can’t add your Yandex email account to a random email client with your regular password. You will instead have to make an app password specific to that client. Here is the process.

  • Step 1. You log in to Yandex
  • Step 2. Click on the Gear/cog icon in the bottom left corner, just above your profile pic
  • Step 3. From the pop-up box, click All settings
  • Step 4. Under the All settings menu, choose Security
  • Step 5. Click on the app passwords link
  • Step 6. Now, under “Create an app password,” select the email address to which you are going to provide access.
  • Step 7. In the New app password box, type in the name of the client you are making the app password for, and press Next
  • Step 8. A 16-character string will appear. Copy it and keep it somewhere safe. You only get to see the password once, so make sure you save it.
  • Step 9. Once saved, press Close.

Now, use any of the popular email clients, such as Outlook, Apple Mail, or Thunderbird, and add your Yandex account. Repeat for your Office 365 account (you don’t need an app password here; it authenticates via OAuth).

Once both accounts are added, drag and drop an email from the Yandex account to Office 365. One way to make the process easier is to open a second instance of the client and set both windows side by side so you don’t have to scroll. You can also create a dedicated folder for all Yandex mail data in your Office 365 account and put all data there.

But this approach, too, has its downsides, the biggest one being no means to measure progress. Users are in the dark regarding how many emails they have moved and how much is left.

Manual drag and drop can also cause some emails to be missed out and others to be copied twice.

You need not subject yourself to the same punishment, as I have something very unique that you can use to take care of the Yandex to O365 transfer easily.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q- Can I migrate email from a Yandex account to Microsoft 365 on Windows 11?

Yes, this automated tool is capable enough to work with the latest versions of Windows operating systems, including Windows 11 and 10.

Q- Does this tool also migrate Yandex to an Office 365 account with attachments?

Yes, this tool is designed with advanced algorithms that ensure the transfer of all Yandex emails with attachments in the same formatting.

Q- Will the forwarding rule apply to existing messages?

No, even though there is an option to apply the filter to existing messages, you can’t use it with the auto-forwarding rule. In fact, Yandex makes you aware of this limitation with a pop-up when you are about to make the rule live.

Q- Can I forward Yandex emails to more than one Office 365 account at once?

If you are performing a manual message-level forwarding, then yes, it is very much possible to transfer/forward to multiple accounts at once. Just add the accounts in the To field of the email draft. For the auto-forwarding rule, there is a bit of a catch. Your rules get processed in sequential order, and in one rule, there can only be a single recipient. You must mark the save copy checkbox. Otherwise, when you make the rule with another recipient, the rule won’t trigger, as the message will get deleted beforehand.
