Summary: This write-up will let you know how to recover Exchange Server 2019? This generally occurs due to virtual machine crash and failure in hardware. Here the user will get the detailed information to recover the Microsoft Exchange Server.

Users can perform recovery from Exchange Server by using Mode:RecoverServer switch in the command line for Exchange Setup. The command Setup.exe /Mode:Recover Server tells the user about the information while installing the Exchange on a new server with the same name. Users can also recover Exchange Server in an existing server that does not have Exchange installed in it.

In this write-up, the user can recover the Exchange Server which is not a part of the Database Availability Group. If you want to recover the server which is a member of DAG, see

The command Setup.exe /Mode:RecoverServer tells the location of Exchange Program files. When users recover the Exchange Server and don’t use the given path i.e. TargetDir, than then Exchange files are installed in the default location.                                                                                                                  install location of exchange

  4. Users have to specify that the recovered server must be the same version of the Windows Server of the lost server. For example, Users cannot recover the lost Exchange 2019 server that was running on Windows 2016 on a new server that is running Windows 2012.
  5. The lost server disk drive letters that were used for the mounted database also present on the target server.
  6. Like this, the target server also have the same hardware configurations and general performance characteristics of the lost server.
  7. The command Mode:RescoverServer switch assigns the self-signed certificate to all the Exchange Services that require SSL/TLS. If this certificate was issued by a different certification authority and it is used on the previous server, then the user will need to re-import the certificate and set up the services to use the certificates.

Otherwise, they will get the certificate prompt when they try to connect.
