Before you start enabling the G Suite email forwarding. It is important to prepare yourself. Below are some prerequisites that you must follow.

Prerequisites Before Setting Up Email Forwarding

  • If you are planning to set up forwarding emails for multiple users. Then, you need active admin privileges. Regular users can only enable forwarding from their own accounts.
  • The email address where you want to forward your messages must be valid and accessible. Verify the ID before setting up.
  • If your business uses custom routing rules or third-party email security services. Make sure it is configured to set up forwarded emails.
  • Make sure the account has enough storage to store your forwarded emails.
  • Some organisations block automatic forwarding to external addresses due to data protection. So, confirm with your organization’s email policy before allowing the forwarding.

Forward Google Workspace Email As a User

  1. First access to your Gmail using a G Suite account.
  2. Go to the Settings and select Forwarding and the POP/IMAP tab.
  3. In the Forwarding section, click on Add a forwarding address.
  4. Provide the destination email address.
  5. Verify the email address that you have given.
  6. After that, go back to Gmail settings and refresh the page.
  7. Again, select Forwarding and POP/IMAP, then Forward a copy of incoming mail to.
  8. Choose the email address that you have just verified. Then, click on the Save Changes button.

Set up Google Workspace Email Forwarding (Admin Level)

  1. Log in to the Google Admin Console using an administrator account.
  2. On the home page, click on Apps and then Google Workspace.
  3. Select the Gmail option and then create a routing rule
  4. Click on the Routing button; do not click Default routing.
  5. Then, go to the Email forwarding using recipient address map section.
  6. Press the Configure button or the Add Another Rule option.
  7. Provide the rule a name. Then, hit the Add button.
  8. Enter the original recipient email address in the Address field and the forward email address in the Map to address field.
  9. Choose if you want to apply this rule to all incoming messages or only to external ones.
  10. Select the Also route to original destination option to keep a copy of the message, and then Save the rule.

Forward G Suite Email to Group

  1. In your Google Admin Console, go to the Groups.
  2. Click on the Create group button and then provide the group details.
  3. Add the email addresses of the members to whom you want to receive the forwarded emails.
